Atlantic City Council Votes Yes For Expanded Outdoor Drinking

Atlantic City Council on Wednesday night voted in favor of allowing open containers in certain parts of the city’s Tourism District. The city by itself has no power to permit local bars and restaurants sell take-out drinks. But the council’s move was an important step to show the state that the city wants the law changed, officials in favor of the legislation said.

Atlantic City Council voted 5-4 after an hour’s long discussion to proceed with a lease-and-management plan for Gardner’s Basin, the city’s 11.6-acre public park that is home to the Atlantic City Aquarium and Gilchrist restaurant. The plan would hand over running of the site to local developer Scarborough Properties and allow them to add a new restaurant, a water taxi, mini golf and other facilities, Erin Serpico reports for The Press of Atlantic City. Atlantic City Awards Bike Loop Construction Contract

Atlantic City’s purchasing department on Wednesday awarded Egg Harbor City’s Command Company a contract to build out the chunk of a planned bike loop that will connect the beach to Gardner’s Basin via specially-adapted city streets in the inlet.
