World Above Welcomes Noor Ibn Najam

February 19, 2020 @ 7:00 pm

On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 7:00pm the South Jersey Poets Collective welcomes Noor Ibn Najam to Stockton University’s Noyes Arts Garage (2200 Fairmount Ave, Atlantic City, NJ 08401).

Our usual Open Mic, where participants read one poem that is less than two minutes long, will run from 7:00pm-7:45pm. Please arrive by 6:50pm to secure a spot in the Open.

After the break, participants will return to a free take-home writing prompt penned by Barbara Daniels.

Then, Noor Ibn Najam will read and sign books. Noor Ibn Najam is a poet and physicist whose work teases, challenges, breaks, and creates lingual rules and structures. Noor is a fellow of the Callaloo creative writing workshop and a graduate fellow of the Watering Hole as well as a recent resident at the Vermont Studio Center. Their poems have been published with the Academy of American Poets, the Rumpus, and others, and anthologized in Bettering American Poetry, Best New Poets, and Breakbeat Poets vol. 3: Halal If You Hear Me, an anthology of writings by Muslim gender minorities. Noor’s chapbook, Praise to Lesser Gods of Love, was published by Glass poetry press in 2019 and contemplates the ever-shifting role love in the human experience, and how best to worship such a fickle deity.

World Above is made possible with support from The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University, Stockton’s Center for Community Engagement, and the Atlantic City Arts Foundation.
