The Atlantic City Police Department on Tuesday will promote Sgt. Wilbur Santiago to Lieutenant, marking the first time in the department’s history that a Latino has held this rank.
Atlantic City’s population is almost one-third Latino and community organizers have been campaigning for more representation in the police department’s upper ranks for some time. The Hispanic Alliance of Atlantic County earlier this month called on the community to show support for the city’s Latino officers as the police department prepared for a new round of promotions.
Sgt. Santiago will be sworn in as Lieutenant at a ceremony at City Hall on Tuesday at 10 am.
