Solar Eclipse Viewing
August 21, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
What is a Total Solar Eclipse?
A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21, 2017. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.
This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 38 years. The last one occurred February 26, 1979.
You won’t need a telescope for this (though the library will provide solar glasses to protect your eyes!)
The next total solar eclipse over the continental U.S. occurs April 8, 2024—so you won’t want to miss this!
