The Students Are Coming

In Atlantic City’s Lower Chelsea neighborhood, in the blocks around the new Stockton University campus, things are starting to change. Ocean City donut-and-coffee shop Drip n’ Scoop is moving in (at Ventnor and Bartram Aves). Directly across the street it seems as if something is going on behind the boards that shield the burnt-out shell of A&B Market (the city moved to foreclose on the owners of the property earlier this year). And at the corner of Raleigh Ave, a contractor working for an Egg Harbor Township-based dentist has painstakingly renovated the interior of a three-story building and reworked the surrounding stone steps and courtyard. The new outpost of Atlantic Smiles is coming soon, a sign says.

Trains, Fish, Boards – Tuesday’s Roundup

Nor’Easter Nick displayed his surprisingly extensive railroad knowledge yesterday in pointed questioning of NJ Transit Executive Director Kevin Corbett, in town to do damage control since they’re shutting the AC to Philly line for the next however many months. Corbett says the trains will be back in the New Year, but Nick points out that the executive director has also said that NJTransit is unlikely to complete the work needed by that date.

CRDA Considers “Laptop Lounges” For Convention Center, Should It Think Bigger?

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority is considering building laptop lounges on the upper floors of the Atlantic City Convention Center. The project – which currently exists as a request-for-proposals – would allow businesspersons to plug in and work from the sidelines of conferences. But could it be the opportunity to do something more?
