‘Chinaman’

“Chinaman” likes to walk down Ventnor Ave to take advantage of the Heineken special at one of the stores in Lower Chelsea. He was wearing this hat the other day so we asked him the story. His landlady brought it back from Chinatown in New York, he said. She goes there once a week.

The other weekend, we saw Chinaman outside Mino’s and he gave our kids some wrapped hard candies. “They have coffee in them,” he told me, after the kids took them.

This past weekend, Chinaman was talking about his latest ticket from the police. He tried to pay his last one (for drinking in public), but he said there was no one at the court when he went to pay. So now he has another fine to pay this week, or he goes to jail.
