Absecon Island Back Bay Cleanup

September 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Your help is needed on Saturday, September 16th, 10am-1pm! Concerned citizens are set to celebrate International Coastal Cleanup Day by tackling marine debris throughout the Absecon Island back bays. This is a coordinated effort between the green teams of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport, in conjunction with Surfrider Foundation, South Jersey Chapter, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority, and the Atlantic City Fire Department. The cleanup will focus on removing as much debris from the wetlands and back bays as possible. Volunteers are invited to participate with motor boats, kayaks and stand up paddle boards, and there will also be plenty of work for walkers and land lovers.

If you want to volunteer please use this link to register and send to anyone else who might be interested: https://goo.gl/forms/VDKIqURlc9aZAD2V2

Ways you can help:
Volunteers with boats: boaters please help us access trash that is stranded in the water ways. Depending on availability of each boat, volunteers can be placed on each boat to clean the marsh.

Volunteers who want to be a passenger in a boat: any persons who want to join a boat and head out to the designated areas.

Volunteers with trucks: ground teams are in demand. Trucks will be dispersed to littered areas where trash can be collected and delivered back to disposal areas.

Volunteers with kayaks or paddle boards: small craft are welcome to clean the marsh.

Volunteers on land: can walk bayside to pick up trash and prevent it from entering the waterways.

Important Information:
We encourage everyone to wear closed-toe waterproof shoes or old sneakers and long-sleeved shirts and pants that you don’t mind getting dirty. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.

At the end of the day- all trash will be sorted, counted, and disposed of properly!
