Just in time for Halloween, here’s a horror film with a local connection. American Gothic, the third feature film by Ventnor-based producers Dina Engel and Sherry McCracken, will be available on cable systems’ video-on-demand platforms on Tuesday.
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority board will discuss issues related to public safety in the Atlantic City Tourism District in a closed session following its public meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority will pay Atlantic City up to $150,000 to purchase three houses on Belfield Avenue so that they can be demolished, according to an agreement on the city’s website. The agreement is part of a wider initiative by the city and CRDA to demolish abandoned properties. “The city and the Authority believe that the removal of certain nuisance and derelict properties in the Tourism District will advance the City’s clean and safe mission and repurpose particularly problematic properties within the district,” according to the agreement. The houses to be acquired and demolished are 1515, 1516 and 1517 Belfield Ave. A firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting a fire in the row homes earlier this year.
Most Atlantic City overdoses this year occurred in the Tourism District, according to an exclusive Route 40 analysis of the city’s 911 call data.
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority is preparing to sell off some of its Atlantic City real estate holdings, according to documents filed on its website.
“The CRDA seeks an experienced professional firm to market and auction surplus real property owned by the Authority and no longer necessary for its operations,” says the request for proposal. The real estate to be auctioned off ranges from a half-block package in the Inlet with a valuation of $6 million, to a $300 non-buildable alley on North Massachusetts Ave.
Sublime Seafood Company, tucked away in the corner of the Produce Junction plaza on Tilton Road in Egg Harbor Township, does an amazing fish taco. It’s also run by a guy with a heart, who is on a mission to get more people in the community to eat better food. Sublime’s owner and chef, Charles Soreth, is pitching the Sublime Seafood Club, which he hopes will both give back to a good foodie cause and get people to eat fresh fish regularly. The 12-week program will give participants two dinner-sized portions of a responsibly-sourced fish each week, plus a recipe and information on the fish. The cost is $220 (that works out to $18.33 a week) and the proceeds go to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
A Pennsylvania-based brewery that secured $1 million in tax credits to move to Atlantic City is hoping to hold a grand opening in the city in the spring, DeWalt Brewing Company’s owner Chris DeWalt said.
Glenn Straub’s Polo North agreed to sell the casino property known as the Revel to a group of developers that had been leasing the property and trying to reopen it as TEN. The purchasing entity is backed by Bruce Deifik, founder and president of Denver-based developer Integrated Properties.
