The vacant lot on the Inlet side of The Showboat consisted of a rather deep and muddy puddle, up until recently. Today, though, evidence of construction activity was very much on display.
The water park is on track to open next summer, according to Bart Blatstein, the owner of the site. He did not comment on why it has sat vacant since an elaborate groundbreaking in January, but he did add one little nugget of information. “The building is being manufactured in Toronto,” he told us via text message.
The company that is building the retractable roof for the park, OpenAire, is based in Oakville, Ontario, 30 minutes from Toronto. Will it be brought here in pieces? Will its delivery be affected by rising transportation costs? So many questions!
