Millennials aren’t Migratory? – Tuesday’s Roundup

Millennials aren’t Migratory? A report from New Jersey Policy Perspective says Millennials are not leaving the state at high rates relative to previous generations, and levels have been stable since the 1980s. “We also found that New Jersey millennials aren’t leaving the state at any more a frequency than millennials in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and those around us,” Cliff Zukin, a professor at Rutgers, said. Flooding! Boy there was a lot of water in town the other night!

Nature Rears its Windy Head – Monday’s Roundup

Happy Rosh Hashana to everyone out there celebrating. Hope you enjoy wind and rain. I kind of do, but then, we don’t have central air in the Route 40 newsroom/house, so I’m just glad the heatwave has broken. Controversial, I realize. This weekend’s storms put a tiny damper on the A.C. Seafood Festival, prompting Jon Henderson, the guy behind the event, to take to Facebook.

Tax Men, Sex Abuse and Drivers Licenses For The Undocumented – Friday’s Roundup

A bill sponsored by Vince Mazzeo would set up a countywide tax assessment program to replace the system we have now, where municipalities do their assessing on their own. It has the support of a committee made up of mayors John Armstrong (Absecon), Jesse Tweedle (P’ville) and Sonny McCullough (EHT) who went around the state last year looking at how different counties did their assessments.

New Jerseyans are doing less *Love-Making* yet contracting more sexually transmitted diseases, according to a scintillating story from the valuable Spotlight. Drug Court, Noise Pollution and Much, Much More – Monday’s Roundup

So many stories in the neighborhood! I thought this was supposed to be a slow news week. The Press of AC’s Nicole Leonard has two great feats of journalism: One on the recent spike in methamphetamine in South Jersey, often overlooked because of opioids. The other is a profile of the drug court and Judge Sandson. Meanwhile, the Root Beer Barrel in Brigantine is closing for good after Labor Day and the incomparable Kevin Riordan has a profile on the shop John Garbries opened in 1974.

Friday Night Lights, NJ Transit And Climate Change Is Hurting Home Values – Friday’s Roundup

So much football in the neighborhood! Glory Days has features on the upcoming Holy Spirit and Pleasantville seasons, and the Press of AC has a picture of Leo Hamlett, in front of a leaf-strewn yard, for its feature on the Atlantic City Vikings. It looks like something out of Friday Night Lights (the picture). How that TV show didn’t get better ratings I’ll never understand.
